Dean of Students

The Office of the Dean of Students works to promote an engaging learning environment characterized by respect and inclusiveness.

The School of Hotel Administration and Cornell University have a wide range of resources available to students.  The Dean of Students helps students connect to these resources, to better support their personal, academic, and professional goals.

Professor Judi Brownell currently serves as Dean of Students for the School of Hotel Administration.  The Dean of Students plays a lead role in designing, implementing, and coordinating processes related to the smooth operation of the undergraduate program and the activities that directly affect students and their educational experience.  Working closely with the Office of Student Services, the Dean of Students strives to ensure continuous improvement in all student-centered policies and practices.  Activities include:

  • coordinating the efforts of the faculty teaching required courses, in order to better balance and integrate students' experience;
  • arbitrating student/professor issues as appropriate;
  • managing students’ social and professional environments;
  • facilitating the involvement of undergraduates in research.

Dean Brownell is the primary liason between the School's student body and administration.  Students who have questions, concerns, or suggestions for improvement are encouraged to discuss their ideas with Dean Brownell.
