"Best Places to Work in Hr 2008". Anonymous; Personnel Today.Oct 28, 2008. p. A1.
Personnel Today's second Best Places to Work in HR event was, in itself, a best place to be on the evening, which was held at Shakespeare's historic globe theater. Having exhausted every other potential avenue looking for competitive advantage, many companies came back to what every grounded HR professional knew all along -- that people are your only real point of difference. But as they celebrate this coming of age, it's worth considering what the economic landscape will look like over the next six to nine months. It's now widely accepted that employees who are positively engaged with their work and employer will almost certainly be more productive than staff who are not. In an age where organizational change is constant and redundancies and buyouts a fact of corporate life, good leadership is vital in steering organizations through the turbulence. The winners for the Best Places to Work in HR are presented.
"20 Best Places to Retire". Taylor, C.; Black Enterprise. Vol. 39, Iss. 3. Oct, 2008. p. 110.
When Chuck and Lorraine Braud Hill of Irvine, CA, mulled over where to set down retirement roots, their decision was dictated by quality of life concerns. California's declining services, crumbling infrastructure, and crushing housing prices made the director of international alliances and business development for University of California, Irvine Extension and his banker wife look beyond the Golden State. Their top choice for where they're planning to move within the next year: Nashville, TN, a friendly locale where all the "streets and schools are still working." No matter how well-laid your retirement plans, healthcare is the one issue that trumps everything. That's why retirees need to do serious due diligence in researching their top cities when it comes to health issues. Certain cities emerged as healthcare all-stars. Chief among them, Charlottesville, VA; and Johnson City both scored in the high 90s out of 100 possible points. Among those ranked, areas like Roswell, GA, and Kent, WA, did particularly well in leisure and arts and culture categories.
