JW Marriott ranks at the upper end in pricing among the survey's upper upscale properties-Marriott positions it as an entry-level luxury brand-and the brand earned the top scores in the facilities and service categories. Buyers rated as the tier's best its in-room amenities, an area in which the brand recently has invested, including an overhaul of the brand's bathroom accoutrements, JW Marriott global brand manager Mitzi Gaskins said.

Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide's Le Meridien went down to the fifth rank despite improvements in its overall scores. According to JW Marriott global brand manager Mitzi Gaskins, the hotel decided to invest in employee training as service sets it apart from other hotels.

In this article four executives discuss aspects on the plan of the government to back customer reviews for hotels in Great Britain in 2011. Andrew McGuinness and Chris Macdonald claim that they are not in favor of the star-rating scheme from customers because of the biases it generate. Christian Cull is in favor of the star-rating scheme because it helps customers make an initial distinction between hotels and they offer a reassurance of consistency within each rating itself.

The number one franchise, Hampton Hotels, is praised for its focus on customers, as illustrated by its customer satisfaction guarantee and amenities such as waffle irons. The ampm convenience store franchise, owned by petroleum industry firm BP, was picked for second place, and fast food chain McDonald's was third.
