In terms of gross revenue, the top company is Interstate Hotels & Resorts Inc. with a reporting revenue of $975.2 million. Concerning RevPAR, Rosewood Hotels & Resorts Inc. remained in the top spot with a RevPAR of $305.00. Meanwhile, Virama Hospitality obtained the top position with 87% occupancy rating.

The text presents the assessment ofseveral hotel executives on the performance of hotels in the US. Trends during the year include privatization and the selling of properties by big chains to fuel expansion. Merger and acquisition (M&A) activity in early 2007 was not considered for the rankings. The top hotel chains include InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), Wyndham Hotel Group, Marriott International, Hilton Hotels Corp. and Choice Hotels International.

The article highlights the results of the hotel industry forecast of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) for 2007 which shows slowing growth in demand, rate and occupancy, along with significant increases in the number of rooms added to the market. PWC forecasts a more modest, but still healthy 5.9-percent increase in average daily rooms sold. Industry profits will continue to grow significantly in 2007, topping $27 billion and breaking the all-time industry record of $25.3 billion set in 2006. Due to rising operating expenses and the rise in the number of new hotel rooms entering the market, growth in profits per available room will moderate.

This article reports the top 10 growth hotel brands in the US in 2006. La Quinta Inn/La Quinta Inns & Suites was the fastest-growing chain. It posted 33% growth, with 16,092 new rooms. American Value Inn (ABVI) ranks third, with 27.19% growth, after Westin, which has a growth rate of 27.30%. The ranking also includes Sheraton and Four Points by Sheraton. Executives from La Quinta credited their franchisees with much of their success. La Quinta has 158 franchises in the pipeline in addition to 368 franchises it operates.

Hilton Hotels Corp. is the number two hotel owner with a total number of rooms owned totaling to 483,677. Host Hotels & Resorts Inc. is the number three hotel owner with a total number of rooms owned totaling to 67,000.
