     These surveys provide very detailed salary, compensation and cost of living data for small to large cities across the United States and including some international locations. It also includes data for the vast majority of positions in hospitality, as well as position descriptions. A full description of each product is available.      Salary.com is one of many examples of free (and partially free) web-based salary survey services. Provides limited salary information based on position (some hospitality positions) and geographic location.

CRCA Survey Says Chains Still Cutting Pay, Staffing. Dina, Berta; Nation's Restaurant News. July 20, 2009. Vol. 43 Issue 26, p12-12, 1/3p, 1 color.

       The article reports on the Chain Restaurant Compensation Association (CRCA) survey that says restaurant chains in the U.S. continue to cut pay and staffing levels regarding the gradual economic recovery. According to Wendy Harkness, president of the CRCA and vice president of Checkers Drive-Thru Restaurants, it is a tough time for restaurateurs to decide in keeping their businesses profitable. It notes that half of the restaurants that are being surveyed says that they are freezing salaries.

      The article reports the results of a survey conducted by human resources benchmarking firm People Report of Dallas, Texas on 111 restaurant chains to gauge the impact of the economic downturn on them. The survey reveals that 88% have either reduced or will reduce their number of branches, staffs and salary increases and bonuses. It discloses that 41% have closed or closing units by end of 2009 while 77% said they reduced the number of planned openings for the year.

       The article presents the results of the 2008 Compensation Study. According to the survey, only 16 percent of respondents believe they will be promoted by 2013, while 36 percent believe they will be in the same job and 32 percent will be retired. Ninety-two percent of respondents reported that their food costs have risen during the past 24 months, with 95 percent of hospital and school foodservice directors seeing an increase.

Labor, Economy Issues Top-of-Mind for GMs. Hotel & Motel Management. November 3, 2008, Vol. 223 Issue 19
      The article highlights the general manager's survey conducted by the Hotel & Motel Management in the U.S. The survey shows that 71% of the respondents believe that the environment in the lodging industry is worse than in 2007 and is not looking good in 2009. In addition, 32% of the repondents are optimistic that occupancy for 2009 will remain flat, while 35% believes that it will increase a small amount. Moreover, the salary bracket above $75,000-$89,999 is steadily growing with 15% of general managers belonging to the bracket. Furthermore, 91% classified sustainability as ranking from neutral to very important to guests.

      The article reports on the results of the 2008 salary survey conducted by the International Executive Housekeepers Association (IEHA) in the U.S. Majority of the survey respondents work in hospitals holding the title of director of environmental services and earning more than $30,000 per year. For frontline employee wages, majority of them reveal that they pay between $9.50 and $15.00 per hour. Moreover, the second highest number of respondents in the survey work in a college or university.
