Got Hospitality Knowledge?

During the Spring 2009 semester we added over 50 new questions to our database of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).

The FAQ database serves as a starting point for student and faculty research and as a reminder for library staff of the numerous electronic and print resources available to the Cornell Community with a specific focus on hospitality.

Popular questions like “Where can I find hotel occupancy rates, ADR (Average Daily Rate), and RevPAR (Revenue Per Available Room) in the U.S.?” and “Where can I find hotel performance for individual cities?” deal with hotel operating statistics. Each of the answers cite resources produced by major players in the lodging industry like PKF Consulting and STR Global.

Other questions navigate users to guides and finding aids created by library staff posted elsewhere on the Nestlé Library web site.  For example, type in” Ithaca” or “Tompkins Country” and the answers will provide a link to the Researching Ithaca and Tompkins guide.  Type in “salaries” and the answer to the question “How much do hotel managers typically make?” will link to the Salary and Cost of Living Resources guide.  And, type “casinos” to be directed to the Gaming and Casinos industry guide, one of our many industry guides.

When possible, we provide the complete answer in addition to the cited sources.  For example, the question “Where can I find the Ellsworth Statler's quote on service?” gives Mr. Statler’s exact quotation.

Maintaining and adding to the FAQ database is a continuous work-in-progress and we are always looking for feedback so please contact us at hotelref@cornell.edu with any suggestions or questions.  We will gladly accept answers too!
