Cornell Hotel School, Southern Wine & Spirits of America Announce Major Research Partnership

Ithaca, NY, May 11, 2005 -- Southern Wine & Spirits of America, Inc. has become a senior partner of the Cornell Hotel School's Center for Hospitality Research in a major commitment to advance operating practices in the hospitality industry. This partnership will strengthen the Center's focus on the food and beverage management sector and the hospitality industry as a whole.

Southern Wine & Spirits of America is the nation's largest wine and spirits distributor, founded by Harvey R. Chaplin, Chairman and CEO. An entrepreneur, civic leader and hospitality industry visionary, Chaplin is a strong supporter of premier hospitality educational institutions. He continues this tradition with Southern Wine's new partnership with Cornell's Center for Hospitality Research.

"Our partnership with Cornell will support cutting-edge research to create new knowledge for hospitality industry managers and executives," said Chaplin.

James Allen, Executive Vice President/Wines, Southern Wine & Spirits of New York, a division of Southern Wine & Spirits of America, Inc. has joined the Center's advisory board, which helps guide Cornell's senior researchers. "I am pleased to join the Center's research advisory board, and I look forward to working with Cornell's researchers to explore opportunities that will address key food and beverage management issues facing the industry," Allen said.

Southern Wine & Spirits of America, Inc. becomes the 13th partner for the Center and its 41st corporate affiliate. "We are very pleased to partner with Southern Wine and Spirits of America," said Gary Thompson, executive director of the Center. "Southern's stature as a national supplier of fine wines and spirits for the hospitality industry, as well as its leadership role in creating world-class special events, will enhance the Center's reach and research capability."
