    Middle East tourism is expected to more than double by 2020. Furthermore, the Arab world is still considered a hot spot among investors in the hospitality sector — but growth opportunities are no longer conceivable without considering the budget sector. Experts believe that luxury requires budget and Dubai, renowned for luxurious hotels such as Burj Al Arab, is leading the way. The emirate is beginning to realize that in order to lure more tourists, it needs to diversify its offerings especially in light of the financial downturn.

    Sol Meliá has reached an agreement with The Resort Group PLC to manage two new 5-Star Hotel Resorts on the Island of Sal, Cape Verde, under the MELIÁ brand. Cape Verde is an archipelago of 10 tropical islands in the Atlantic Ocean, 1,000 km south of the Canary Islands and 450 km west of Senegal.   • Hoteliers celebrate Abu Dhabi Formula One Grand Prix success

    Deloitte, the business advisory firm, confirms that Abu Dhabi’s hospitality industry received a welcome boost when hosting the UAE’s (United Arab Emirates) first Formula One Grand Prix last weekend. Revenue per available room (revPAR) growth, one of the hotel industry’s key performance indicators, peaked on Friday 30th October up 97.6% according to daily STR Global data. However, occupancy and average room rates hit the highest point during the 3-day event on Saturday the 31 October, at an astonishing 97.5% and US$606 respectively.
