Cornell Hotel School Awards Scholarships to Three EHMA Professionals

L to R: Tom Kline, Miguel Simoes de Almeida, Rafael Alcaide, Andres Cheminade, Barbara Valzania

The Cornell University School of Hotel Administration and the European Hotel Managers Association awarded three 2009 scholarships to the Cornell Professional Development Program (PDP).  The scholarships were awarded during the annual General Meeting held in Seville last month.

The scholarships allow each winner to participate in one of Cornell’s PDP courses being offered in Brussels this July.  Scholarship winners were selected from new member acceptances by the European Hotel Managers Association’s (EHMA) executive committee.  For the past few years, Cornell’s Hotel School has offered these scholarships as a way to support the EHMA.  The EHMA is dedicated to providing professional value to its members, and the Cornell scholarships have a direct impact for new members.  “It is during challenging times that individuals look to their industry affiliations for support and guidance,” says Cornell’s Tom Kline, director of Executive Education. “In addition, many are seeking to improve their professional skills to be prepared for what lies ahead.  Through our scholarships, we not only help a vital organization, but we support industry professionals who recognize the value of continued learning.”

For over 80 years, Cornell’s PDP has provided an opportunity for hotel professionals to sharpen their knowledge of key industry-specific management practices in an interactive learning environment. Participants learn from Cornell faculty members who have vast experience predicting, formulating, and testing strategies for effective management. Past participants in the Cornell PDP program have found the learning to be immediately applicable and the return on investment to be fast and substantial. In addition to receiving in-depth knowledge on industry-specific topics, participants benefit from building friendships with an internationally diverse assembly of industry colleagues.  This will be the eighth year that the program will be held at the Brussels site.
