The Cornell University School of Hotel Administration sold its 25,000th online course on December 28, 2007, just 5 years since launching the program with eCornell.
“Industry executives appreciate the need to keep up with and stay ahead of global hospitality trends and information, and they realize that the best way to do this is through executive education,” said Michael D. Johnson, dean of the school. “With our online education product, professionals can learn at their own pace in the comfort of their own surroundings. It’s an efficient and cost-effective way for professionals to learn new skills and advance their careers.”
Participants choose from a total of 29 courses within five categories: Financial Management; Food, Restaurant and Beverage Management; General and Strategic Management; Marketing; and Operations Management. Each course is developed by a faculty member at the Cornell School of Hotel Administration.
Faculty members work with learning designers at eCornell to adapt classroom content into an engaging and exciting online learning experience. The designers draw from several media–interactive simulations, self-assessments, ‘ask the expert’ audio clips, charts, articles and more to create content designed to stimulate, engage and inform. Students interact with an expert instructor (who is also a coach/mentor) and their peers online to develop knowledge and apply their learning to their organizations.
Students can earn one of eight Cornell certificates by completing a series of related courses. Each course requires two to four weeks to complete, and all courses are available year-round. The course completion rate exceeds 90 percent.
“Cornell and eCornell remain on the cutting edge of new and emerging technology,” said Tom Kline, director of Executive Education at the School of Hotel Administration. “Under the lead of our esteemed faculty, we continually strive to provide the best in professional hospitality education.”
