Practice Credit Requirement

The School of Hotel Administration requires its matriculated students earning a Bachelor of Science degree to work 800 hours, paid or unpaid, in the hospitality/service industry. The objective of the Practice Credit requirement is to ensure that each student's education has the essential balance between theory and practice, two mutually enriching sources of learning.

Students must work a minimum of two separate employment periods, holding a minimum of two significantly different positions. Students must initiate completion of an Employment Verification Form with the employer at the end of the employment period.

The Practice Credit guidelines provide additional information regarding:

  • industry segments that will be considered for practice credit
  • international students working in the U.S.
