Management Intern Program (MIP)

The Management Intern Program is a six- to eight-month work-study program for juniors and seniors who have completed required course work. The primary objective of the program is to provide interns with a challenging work environment and the opportunity to apply classroom lessons to real-world management situations.

Although there are academic requirements, the internship is designed to be flexible enough to meet the specific interests of the student and the needs of the sponsoring employer. Exact timing of the internship is up to the employer and student, but the internship must:

  • be at least 24 weeks long
  • be during either the fall or spring semester (not both)
  • include a summer

We strongly encourage employers to compensate the student for their work, due to the length and the nature of the program and the benefits the employer receives.

Benefits to Students
The internship experience fosters initiative, ambition, educational development, and personal growth.  In addition, students:

  • experience the culture and philosophies of a particular organization
  • gain significant practical experience in an industry segment of interest
  • receive one unit of required Practice Credit (practical experience)
  • receive 12 academic credits

Benefits to Sponsors
Management Intern Program sponsors benefit from an intern/employee who:

  • contributes to the organization
  • is productive and motivated to learn
  • offers valuable insights into the daily operations
  • promotes the organization upon return to campus

The program has also proven to be an excellent way to evaluate potential permanent employees.

How to Become a Sponsor
Complete the Sponsor Agreement Form. When your form is received, your organization will be placed on a list of potential sponsors. Students begin a formal MIP application process several months prior to their desired internship period. We work with sponsors and students to facilitate the internship application and interview process.

Sponsors are expected to abide by the requirements set forth in the
Sponsor Guidelines.
