Welcome from the Center Director

Jan deRoosWelcome to Cornell University’s Center for Real Estate and Finance (CREF); established to educate undergraduate and graduate students in the commercial real estate discipline; to create and disseminate new knowledge about real estate, especially the role and impact of the capital markets on commercial real estate; and to exchange information about commercial real estate with a broad range of audiences. The Center is sustained by an active group of CREF Industry Fellows, and we are grateful to the firms and individuals who support our efforts.

CREF is home to Cornell University’s undergraduate Minor in Real Estate, a specialization designed to prepare students in the commercial real estate industry. The Minor currently has over 100 students enrolled and continues to grow. The Minor curriculum requires students to develop knowledge of real estate as an investment class and allows students to select from a variety of elective courses to add both depth and breadth to their real estate foundations. Our alumni are represented within all of the major real estate consulting organizations and real estate investment banks and many become principal investors as their careers develop.

CREF houses a research oriented faculty actively engaged in cutting edge research and outreach. Center faculty publish over 20 articles on an annual basis, which you can access here. Professor Crocker Liu is co-editor of Real Estate Economics, the leading discipline journal, giving the Center a unique perspective on the most contemporary research. CREF faculty are all actively engaged in creating new knowledge by publishing in discipline journals and disseminate their knowledge through active engagement at industry conferences and through practitioner oriented articles.

I encourage you to learn more about the Center for Real Estate and Finance by exploring our web site, by attending a CREF event, or by contacting me.
