Faculty Road Show
Great programming can enhance Cornell Hotel Society chapter events, and the Faculty Road Show is one way to do just that! Our talented faculty from all disciplines look forward to sharing their latest research or trends in their areas of expertise with alumni and their guests. Whether as a key note speaker or as part of a panel, engaging our faculty is another way to stay connected with the school. Please note, The Faculty Road Show is not intended to be a supplement for seminar or conference formats to the greater industry or general public where speaker fees would ordinarily apply.
Good planning makes for great events!
How do I arrange for a faculty member to be a guest speaker?
Complete a Faculty Request Form with your preferences and forward to the Cornell Hotel Society at: hotelsociety@sha.cornell.edu.
Alumni Affairs will match faculty travel and individual availability with chapter’s request providing the date does not conflict with the school's academic schedule and other faculty commitments.
Plenty of advance notice, 4-6 months, is recommended.
In order for the process to proceed smoothly, please do not contact faculty members directly.
How are expenses handled?
Travel Expenses:
Depending on the faculty’s schedule, travel expenses may be paid for by the School or the Cornell Hotel Society. The Alumni Affairs Office will coordinate reimbursement for CHS-related travel. CHS will not reimburse faculty if a chapter reaches out to faculty on their own.
Hotel Accommodations/F&B:
If not in conjunction with faculty member’s pre-arranged travel to an existing conference or trip, CHS Chapters are expected to provide hotel accommodations, and food and beverages during the faculty member's stay. Faculty should not expect accommodations for more than 2 nights.
International Chapters:
For those chapters outside the continental United States, prohibitive travel costs will preclude sending faculty members abroad for a single visit. If a faculty member has previously scheduled travel to a particular region, or is already teaching at the Cornell Nanyang Institute (CNI) in Singapore, and a chapter would like to invite him or her to speak, international chapters are urged to make their request far in advance so that travel and chapter event schedules can be coordinated.
