Interviews
Candidates seeking admission to the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University are required to complete an interview. Because the limited number of on-campus interview time slots fill rapidly, and off-campus alumni interviewers have very busy schedules, you should make your interview arrangements as early as possible. You can request and complete your interview before you have submitted your application.
The interview is one of the evaluative measures used by the admissions committee in the selection process. Therefore, you should approach it in a professional, well-organized manner.
Interview Tips:
- Be punctual and dress appropriately. You’ll be meeting with a faculty, staff, or alumni member.
- Bring a résumé. Your interviewer won’t have seen your application.
- Explain why you’re interested in studying hospitality management.
- Be prepared to discuss your career goals and how our program will help you achieve them.
- Be yourself! This is your chance to tell us more about who you are and what you have to offer.
Cornell offers freshmen applicants the option of applying to a primary and an alternate-choice college. Freshmen applicants using the primary and alternate option must satisfy the application requirements for both colleges or schools. Only exceptional candidates with a serious intellectual passion satisfied by the alternate college or school will be considered for admission by the alternate college or school.
Occasionally, applicants may be contacted by alumni of other divisions of Cornell as a courtesy in providing general information about the university. This contact with alumni, while helpful to the applicant, does not take the place of the required interview, which must be arranged by the applicant through the admissions office of the School of Hotel Administration.
