Eligibility Requirements
MS Degree
To be accepted into the MS program, you must already have earned a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) from an accredited university.
A strong MS applicant typically has an exceptional academic record including research experience, a competitive GMAT score in excess of 700, relevant hospitality experience, and a well-articulated statement of purpose.
Note that the MS is designed for students with a clear interest in pursuing a career as an academic and researcher. Most MS students intend to apply later to a PhD program. Students who have interest in careers as hospitality executives and practitioners should consider the School’s terminal management degree, the Master of Management in Hospitality (MMH) program.
Your graduate committee of faculty members will decide which courses you should take to complete your MS degree program. If you have not earned a bachelor's degree in hospitality management, your committee of graduate faculty members may ask you to complete some of the core courses of the Master of Management in Hospitality (MMH) program.
PhD Degree
To be accepted into the doctoral (PhD) program, you must already have earned a master's degree. The only exception is for students who have a bachelor's degree in hotel administration from our undergraduate program.
A strong PhD applicant typically has an exceptional academic record including research experience, a competitive GMAT score in excess of 700, relevant hospitality and/or teaching experience, a well-articulated statement of purpose, and often has published hospitality papers or articles in relevant journals or trade publications.
Once admitted, your graduate committee of faculty members will decide which courses you should take to complete your PhD degree program. If your master's degree is not in hospitality management (from any university), your committee may ask you to complete some of the core courses of the Master of Management in Hospitality (MMH) degree.
