MS and PhD Admissions

The Master of Science (MS) and doctoral (PhD) degree programs are for students interested in pursuing a career teaching hospitality management in higher education and conducting research in the field.  They are not primarily intended for individuals planning careers as practitioners in private enterprise.

Both degrees involve developing a broad-based knowledge of hotel and restaurant management; learning research methodology, including statistical methodology; becoming proficient at in-depth research; and acquiring teaching and administrative skills.

The major subject for both degrees is Hotel Administration. Minor subjects may be chosen from all of the academic disciplines within the school, or from any of the graduate fields throughout the university.

MS and PhD admission depends highly on the availability of our graduate faculty to take on new graduate students and the alignment of the candidates' proposed research topics with the graduate faculty members' current and upcoming research projects.  Admission is extremely competitive and it is not uncommon for the School to admit no (0) MS or PhD students in a given intake.
