Punk's Backyard Grill is one of many entrepreneurial ventures that MMH Alumni have started.

The MMH program fosters entrepreneurship.  The program’s curriculum will guide students through the processes and challenges of starting and running a successful business with courses like: Introduction to Hospitality Entrepreneurship and Restaurant Entrepreneurship

The Leland C. and Mary M. Pillsbury Institute for Hospitality Entrepreneurship provides students with guidance on entrepreneurship study, introduces students to hospitality entrepreneurs, and encourages students to pursue entrepreneurial endeavors.

Many students have developed a concept or a business plan during the MMH program.  Recent alumni entrepreneurs include Sheila Laderberg, MMH ’06, Jeffrey Sloan, MMH ’06, and David McCabe, MMH ’06, who created a concept in their Restaurant Entrepreneurship class called Punk’s Backyard Grill; a contemporary version of an American-style backyard barbeque.  After winning a competition for best new restaurant concept, they were featured in Quick Service Restaurant Magazine.  The first Punk’s Backyard Grill restaurant opens February 2009.
