Faculty teaching this course in Spring 10:
This course is designed to help managers develop proficiency when communicating among and between people who do not share the same cultural assumptions. Students can expect to learn communication variables that differ among cultural groups, including the use of eye contact, body language, personal space, hierarchy, and time. Additional topics include persuasion and negotiation across cultures and the ethics of communication in international business. Students learn through the use of a blend of theory and practice. Activities include lectures, guided discussion, group projects, student and guest speaker presentations, and analysis of specific cross-cultural managerial challenges with an emphasis on the service industry.
