About
Welcome from the General Manager
Welcome to The Statler Hotel! We are proud to cater to the hospitality needs of the Cornell community while acting in a unique, active educational role for the School of Hotel Administration.
Dean Meek conceived the idea of a learning laboratory to complement the hospitality curriculum and, in 1950, the 36-room Statler Inn opened on campus. Since that time, Hotel School student employees have been actively engaged in delivering a unique brand of hospitality to the Statler's guests. In several courses they work in the hotel to enhance their classroom learning. Many leaders of the hospitality industry held their first jobs at the Statler.
Over the years, the Statler has expanded to more than 150 rooms in tandem with its increasing integration into the educational mission of the Hotel School. Today about 200 Hotel School students are part-time hotel employees, working side by side with professional staff members, gaining both income and experience.
More than 40 students participate in the Statler Leadership Development Program, working toward manager and director positions in the hotel while carrying a full course load. At graduation, SLDP students are highly sought after by hospitality companies because of their significant front-line supervisory experience.
The Statler Hotel staff is proud to host many of Cornell’s important annual events – these functions give us the opportunity to showcase our talented students and staff. We consistently receive positive feedback from our customers, but our proudest accomplishment remains giving tomorrow’s leaders in hospitality a platform from which to launch their distinguished careers.
