Use of Statler Facilities for Non-Class Purposes

With the recent addition of the Robert A. and Jan M. Beck Center, the School of Hotel Administration today combines state-of-the-art teaching facilities with warm and welcoming public spaces. This combination makes Statler Hall one of the most hospitable buildings on the Cornell campus.

GENERAL POLICY:

Statler Hall is first and foremost the educational facility for the School of Hotel Administration. Educational activities include not only the use of classrooms, but also use of the Nestle Library, Binenkorb Computer Center and student gathering spaces. Use of Statler Hall will generally be restricted to the Hotel School community. However, Statler Hall facilities (including public spaces) are fundamentally part of Cornell University and can be made available to other Cornell departments, student organizations and groups affiliated with Cornell provided they meet the following conditions:

  • Use of the facility does not disturb or otherwise inhibit Hotel School educational activities; regularly scheduled classes and exams take precedence over all requests for use of space for meetings and other social gatherings.
  • The organization using the facility will take proper care of the facilities and individuals are expected to behave in a professional manner. Rooms and public spaces need to be reserved in advance and booked by a member of the Cornell Community. The Hotel School requires that a designated individual serves as the responsible person during an event.
  • Non-academic, external organizations will pay established fees to cover the direct costs associated with the use of the space. Fees are charged to cover the costs of additional staff required to support these spaces. These costs include staff costs for administration, room set-up and break down, set-up and operation of AV equipment, and custodial costs.

The Hotel School reserves the right to refuse requests for use of space in Statler Hall that it believes is not in keeping with the mission and goals of the school.

GUIDELINE FOR ROOM USE:

  • Classrooms, meeting rooms and public spaces are only booked during normal Hotel School Business hours from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. Most classrooms are booked during the academic year Monday through Friday from 8:00 to 5:00. Certain classrooms, meeting rooms and public spaces have restrictions on their use. Please see booking procedures for details.
  • A University employee must serve as the responsible person during an event.
  • Occupancy limits must be adhered to due to fire code and safety regulations. Maximum occupancies are posted in all rooms.
  • Unless catered by the Statler Hotel, food and beverages are not permitted in Statler Classrooms, the Nestle Library, the Binenkorb Computer Center or Beck Center meeting rooms. Bottled water with screw top lids are allowed but must be stored on the floor.
  • When catering an event please include 2 hours of set up time prior to the start of the event and an hour for clean-up.
  • Unless the event is catered by the Statler Hotel, it is the responsibility of the organizing group to ensure that the classroom or meeting room is cleaned afterwards.
  • Furniture may not be moved around in meeting and classrooms.

Booking Atrium Space:
Rob Miettunen and the Binenkorb Staff will coordinate use of the Atrium Space in Statler Hall.

The Office of Student Services and student groups often need to set up tables for recruiter showcases, fund raising events or information sessions. Though these types of events are permissible, users must remember that fire exits must be maintained at all times in these spaces.

To check availability and make reservations please contact Rob Miettunen at 255-8872 or rm245@cornell.edu or stop by office 365 M-Th 8:00 - 4:30, Fri. 8:00 - 3:30. Reservations should be made a minimum of two weeks in advance. The Binenkorb staff will coordinate with Custodial Services.
